I've been working on this one for a few weeks, and finished it about the same time as my mix for Sophia. This one is missing the kiddie tracks, and has lots of great tunes for a vintage-themed Halloween shindig. Mostly tracks from the 50s and 60s, with some film tracks thrown into the brew... all in all, it makes for a devilish good time!

SOPHIA'S SPOOKY BIRTHDAY BASH
I know it's been a loooooong time since my last post-- my computer's hard drive died and I've been slowly getting it back to normal again. Just in time for my niece's second birthday this Friday. I love having a niece whose birthday is on Halloween. I get to celebrate my favorite holiday with someone I love! We're celebrating her birthday on Saturday and I made her a birthday mix for the occasion. It's a blending of Halloween songs for kids and some not-too-spooky songs that I think have a good vibe for a kids' Halloween/Birthday party. Sophia is just starting to put words together into phrases and short sentences. The title of the mix comes from something she was saying the other night while we were all driving home from a dinner out together.

More Vintage Buglady
Here's another one from 2002, the early days of AOTM. It's one of several mixes I made back then to listen to as Gary and I drove from the SF Bay Area to Davis, where I was going to school. It was a good mix of familiar tunes as well as new sounds for Gary's ears, and a fun backdrop for the long drive to the Central Valley.

Best Friend
Cameron and I met in college 22 years ago. We were taking the same art history class, and once we finally started talking, it was hard to stop. We have the kind of close friendship that always picks up where it left off... we sometimes don't hear from one another for years, but once we start talking... well, it's hard to stop.
I was thrilled that she was able to fly out to California from Texas to be my bridesmaid recently, and the brief time we spent catching up was not nearly enough. I miss having her around to talk to, and our annual gabfests only make me wish I could see her more often. Today's her birthday, and I wanted to give her something special, so I put together this mix just for her.
Her taste in music can be hard for me to pin down, because I never know what she is listening to at the moment. Historically her taste has ranged from T. Rex, David Bowie, Patti Smith, and Velvet Underground to Roy Harper, Memphis Minnie, Tori Amos, and Woody Guthrie. She is usually open to roots music, traditional folk, old country and western, and as I recently discovered, she counts the Dixie Chicks as a guilty pleasure. The Monkees track has special significance... she and I went to my first Monkees concert together back in 1986. I dragged her along, and I think she enjoyed it despite herself. She later admitted to having liked Mike Nesmith, so i chose a song that is very "Mike". This one's pretty heavy on the twang, but then again, she likes it like that... at least I THINK she does!
Happy Birthday Cameron!
